Blood Type Compatibility Chart

A 4×4 read-across of how Japanese pop culture pairs the four blood types — with a short note on each combination.

For entertainment only. Blood type compatibility (ketsueki-gata aishō) is a popular Japanese cultural belief and is not supported by science. Please don’t use it to make real relationship decisions.

Read down the left column for “you,” across the top row for the other person. Levels are labels from popular belief, not measurements. Note is intentionally short — details go to the individual type pages.

The grid is the summary. Each combination also has its own page — both points of view, what works, where it breaks, and notes for dating, work and friendship.

How to read this without doing harm

Ketsueki-gata compatibility is a real part of Japanese social life — in dating apps, magazine quizzes, and small talk. It is also the source of bura-hara (blood-type harassment), the recognized problem of people using blood type to reject partners, judge coworkers, or type-cast children. If you enjoy the chart, enjoy it as folklore. Don’t use it to break up with anyone.

Where the pairings come from

The classic mapping used by most Japanese pop sources reads roughly like this: Type A pairs smoothly with warm, decisive Type O, and finds a considerate mirror in Type AB. Type B’s spontaneity clicks with Type AB’s originality. Type O anchors almost everyone. Type AB shifts between the A side and B side, and reads other people better than they’re read.

None of that is a scientific claim. It’s a stylised cast list — one that a lot of Japanese readers happen to enjoy discussing.
